Did Judas partake of the bread and the wine and the foot washing?
At the Passover before Jesus’s crucifixion, Jesus introduced to His disciples the bread and the wine, symbols of His body and blood, and He introduced the foot washing ceremony. Judas was there that night, but he left early. Did Judas partake of the bread and the wine and the foot washing? Let’s take a look.
The introduction of the bread and wine are found in the synoptic gospels, (but not John’s gospel).
Luk 22:19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
Luk 22:20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.
Luk 22:21 But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table.
After Jesus had taken the bread and the cup, He said that His betrayer was at the table. So Judas was definitely present when Jesus took the bread and wine. Judas undoubtedly took the bread and the wine along with the other disciples.
The introduction of the foot washing ceremony is found in John’s gospel, (but not the synoptic gospels).
Joh 13:10 Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.”
Joh 13:11 For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”
Joh 13:12 So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?
…
Joh 13:26 Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it.” And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
Joh 13:27 Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.”
John makes it clear that Jesus gave the piece of bread to Judas after the foot washing. So Judas was definitely present when Jesus washed the disciples’ feet. Jesus undoubtedly washed Judas’s feet along with the feet of the other disciples.
Conclusion
Judas partook of the bread and the wine and also the foot washing.
